Certification Program (450 Clock Hours)

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or equivalent and 24 words per minute typing ability.
Program Goals: Program completion from Training To YOU, Mastery of program material and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications.


Program Overview
The Microsoft Office Professional Program is designed for students seeking to become proficient and certified in the most marketable Microsoft Office desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) as well as providing a Windows Foundation course.  Students will benefit from traditional classroom learning experiences, including lectures and hands on labs and remote learning leading to a greater understanding how to create MS Office documents as well as how to prepare for certification.  This program is ideal for students looking to move into office automation and application based careers as well as helping those already in the industry improve and prove their skills through certification.

Required Courses & Descriptions:

Course:  Windows Foundation (90 Clock Hours)

The Windows Foundations program focuses on establishing a solid understanding of the Window’s environment from the end user perspective. Studies will include a strong familiarity with the graphical user interface, file management, and core vocabulary common day to day PC use. The course is designed for individuals new to Windows and looking to become more comfortable with the essential core skills necessary to excel as they venture further into various areas of the software world.


Course:  Excel (Includes Labs, Certification Preparation, and Exam)  (90 Clock Hours)

In this course students will learn the principals and basics in creating an Excel spreadsheet.  As they progress through the course they will practice utilizing Excel features such as formulas, pivot tables, charts, graphs, and templates to mange, organize, maintain, report, and control data.  Students will also learn advanced Excel functions and Macros to automate processes and simplify complex Excel tasks. 


Course:  Word (Includes Labs, Certification Preparation, and Exam) (90 Clock Hours)

This course offers students the skills necessary to become a specialist in Microsoft Word.  Students will learn first how to navigate Word basics such as creating new documents, and utilizing toolbars.  Students will then sharpen their skills by learning tasks such as bullets, tables, using styles and formatting tools, mail merge, and web friendly forms.  Finally students will learn how to use Word to simplify tedious tasks such as table of contents, and comments.  A combination of Instructor-led classes and Instructor-led application labs are complemented by a study and review session to help students prepare for the Word certification exam. 


Course:  PowerPoint – (Includes Labs, Certification Preparation, and Exam) (90 Clock Hours)

In this course students will learn to create professional and dynamic presentations by utilizing PowerPoint tools such as schemes, slide layouts, charts, tables, and special effects like slide transitions and animation.  Students will also learn how to utilize hyper-links in their presentations and make a presentation web-ready.  A combination of Instructor-led classes and Instructor-led application labs are complemented by a study and review session to help students prepare for the PowerPoint certification exam. 


Course:  Outlook (Includes Labs, Certification Preparation, and Exam) (90 Clock Hours)

In this course students will learn the basics of Outlook communication such as sending, replying and forwarding messages, and setting email options.  After the basics, you will learn how to utilize more advanced Outlook features such as the creating appointments, assigning tasks, sharing your calendar, assigning permissions, and automating process.


ELECTIVE

Course:  Access (90 Clock Hours - Independent Study/Lab)

*If this course is chosen as a substitute to the courses listed above, the student will receive access to the LearnKey video series and tools as well as the opportunity to join scheduled classes.

This course introduces students to principals of databases. Students will learn to work with database objects including tables, queries, forms and reports.  They will practice important database management skills such as data normalization, referential integrity, extracting data, and records maintenance. This course provides online access to LearnKey videos as well as the opportunity to view scheduled classes to help students prepare for the Access certification exam.
