Certification Program (300 Clock Hours)

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or equivalent, Basic experience in Windows and 24 words per minute typing ability.  A minimum of 4500 hours of project management experience is required for those seeking the PMP.  Experience working within a project is recommended for those seeking the CAPM.

Program Overview
The Project Management Professional Program is for professionals looking to quantify their understanding of formalized Project Management concepts by obtaining the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification.  Project Management is both an art and a science, managing the competing constraints of time, budget, scope and quality.  Experienced Project Managers possess a vast array of skills, from communication and presentation skills to negotiation, logical processes, and more.  In this program, students will learn the Project Management Body of Knowledge’s standards of initiating, planning, executing, controlling and successfully completing a project.  These techniques will be enhanced with software application training.  The software training along with the project management instruction will help beginning through experienced project managers prepare for the industry recognized credential, improve career potential and become a valued asset to any company.

Required Courses & Descriptions:

Course:  Project Fundamentals (8 Clock Hours)

In this class students will overview the basics of project management including theory and core methodology used by professional project managers and leads.  This course focuses on the conceptual underpinnings, theories and best practices that are key to successfully managing projects to their completion.  Students will learn how to use project management techniques to plan, organize, control, document, and close out their projects successfully while minimizing risk.  Students will identify and explore project management concepts in-line with the teachings of the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide).  Topics covered include: project process groups, success criteria, risk management, critical path methodology, budget management, communication, and project close-out.  This course is recommended for those needing to work more efficiently on their current projects, as well as those looking for a foundation towards obtaining the CAPM certification or PMP credential.
 


Course:  Project Management Certification Success (16 Clock Hours)

The Project Management Institute’s PMP and CAPM Exams require extensive preparation.  However, there are many other items that must be completed before sitting for the exam.  This course provides students taking our 5-day Project Management Certification Preparation a chance to understand all of the details of the exams and how to maintain them once obtained.  The PMP and CAPM application process will be explained and assistance submitting the application will be provided.  Additional topics include: How to setup a baseline study plan, an introduction to PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge, course expectations, and more.  USB drives containing study materials, templates, examples, online study resources and required documentation will be provided.


Course:  Project Management Credential Prep (140 Clock Hours)

The CAPM certification and PMP credential are based on the same curriculum, but vary on the intensity of questions and a requirement of actual project management experience for the PMP.  This course is based on the tenets outlined in the Project Management Institute’s Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide®).  This industry recognized guide has become the standard for CAPM and PMP education and therefore denotes knowledge and understanding of globally-recognized project management processes and terminology.  In this course, students will focus on the processes, tools and techniques for project management in preparation for successfully passing the PMP or CAPM exams.  Students will be provided with courseware fully aligned to the PMBOK Guide, over 600 exam prep questions, reviews and vocabulary exercises, and a handy study reference guide.  Topics include the PMBOK Guide’s processes, budget, resources and project domains from initiation to project closing.


Course:  Project Management Study Lab (16 Clock Hours)

The CAPM and PMP exams test on the 42 processes from the PMBOK Guide and the tools and techniques within each one.  This course provides additional study time to fully process and understand each one, including an additional review of the formulas presented on the exam.  Earned value analysis, forecasting, expected monetary value, communications channels and critical path methodology are reviewed, with custom exercises to assist with retention.  Instructor support will be provided thru the duration of the lab, culminating in a timed mock exam in the afternoon.


Course:  Microsoft Project 2007 (16 Clock Hours)

In this course students will learn how to use Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 as a tool to assist them in organizing projects. The topics in this course include basic thru more advanced skills necessary to create and modify a project schedule.  Students will create a project schedule containing tasks, organize these tasks in a work breakdown structure containing precedence relationships, create and assign resources, and finalize the project by saving a baseline.  Additional topics include: Importing and exporting from Excel, updating the schedule with actual process, creating custom reports, customizing the interface, using a resource pool and creating a rollup schedule.


Course:  Microsoft Excel 2007 Level 1 (8 Clock Hours)

In this course students will learn how to navigate through the Excel environment and create basic spreadsheets.  This class will provide students with the tools needed to modify, manipulate and format a wide variety of data types.  These skills can be used to prepare budgets, modify financial projections, and more.  This class will also teach students how to work with multiple sheets in a workbook, manage large worksheets and utilize the print area options.


Course:  Microsoft Excel 2007 Level 2 (8 Clock Hours)

In this course, more experienced Excel users will learn how to streamline repetitive tasks and display spreadsheet data in more visually effective ways.  Spreadsheets will be enhanced using templates, charts, graphics, and formulas.  Topics covered include: Analyzing data using PivotTables, sorting and filtering data, using specialized and logical functions, creating lookups, working with tables, adding graphic elements and customizing the environment.  Basic proficiency in Excel is recommended.


Course:  Microsoft Visio 2007 Level 1 (8 Clock Hours)

Diagrams and charts play a pivotal role in knowledge dissemination, making complex data easy to understand. Microsoft® Office Visio® Professional 2007 has a host of features that are instrumental in creating pictorial representations of information. In this course, you will learn the essentials of Visio, including how to design and manage basic diagrams, workflows, organizational charts and flowcharts.


Course:  Project Management Exam Cram (80 Clock Hours)

This course covers all of the essentials of the PMBOK and the specific topic areas for preparation for either the CAPM or PMP exam.  In this intense two-day session, students will review all 42 processes and all inputs, tools, techniques and outputs to them, as well as gain insight and valuable tips for test taking.  The entire exam environment, key “PMI-isms”, discussion of assessment scores, exam principles and exam best preparation practices will be covered.
