Phoenix, Arizona May 17, 2007
June 19-21, 2007, Computer Career
Institute at Training to YOU, Inc. will provide free
computer training classes to aid
HomeBase Youth Services and the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix (BGCMP) to fulfill a
portion of their organizational missions and to advance the careers
of their clients. In order to help
disadvantaged youths gain valuable
computer skills and
Web design
skills, Computer Career Institute at
Training to YOU, Inc. invited
HomeBase
and BGCMP to identify
students who could benefit from free computer training sessions focused on
creating Web pages and managing Web sites.
“Assisting organizations that work to elevate the proficiency of
people who are disadvantaged is an essential part of the core values and
practices of our founder and
President, Tim Smith and our staff. It is vital to the
Computer
Career Institute at Training to YOU, Inc. mission to help ‘…individuals learn skills to improve
their future…’, said Scott Jeffery, Director of Courseware and Website
Development at Computer Career Institute at Training to YOU, Inc., Phoenix, Arizona.
HomeBase provides ‘…real life solutions for youth who have suffered
from physical, mental and emotional abuse and neglect.’ Clients of
HomeBase receive basic living needs such as food and clothing as well as
employment and life skills education to help them achieve healthy and
independent lives. The
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix
helps ‘…those faced with
difficult and challenging circumstances, to realize their individual
potential while learning responsible citizenship.’
“The missions of
Boys & Girls Clubs and
HomeBase really speak to me, personally. When
I was growing up, I had no extended family members on whom I could rely.
Mentoring that I received, during my teenage years, helped me to make
positive choices and created a sense of belonging for me,” said Scott.
“After losing both of my parents, at a young age, I was in an at-risk
situation for being on the streets. If not for my support network of
very good friends, my story could have been the same as some of these
kids.”
“The employment services we provide to homeless youth focus on giving
them practical skills they need to succeed in a workplace,” said
HomeBase Youth Services President and CEO Mary Kate Poling. “This
support from Training to YOU will provide our youth with valuable
computer knowledge that can enhance their marketability to potential
employers.”
Students will participate in three classes:
Creating Web
Pages with HTML,
Macromedia Dreamweaver 8: Level 1, and
Macromedia Dreamweaver 8: Level 2. By the end of these sessions,
students will be able to create Web pages and to create and manage
Websites. Each participant will receive training reference manuals and
sample data files to practice what they learned; and they will have
access to free post-training support to answer questions that arise
while studying the lessons.
